Using 것 to say “thing”

것 (this one) to make 이 which can go in front of any noun to say “this (noun)”.

This is very powerful, but so is the remaining 것 which just means “thing”.

것 is a common part of many Korean grammar patterns.

It can be used to refer to physical things, and ideas, to say “It’s mine” and “whose is it” etc.

Although 것 can be translated as “thing”, it is often not said in the English translation, despite it being a very important part of the grammar.
